COUNCILLORS in Alresford have decided to appoint a new market town manager.

Members of New Alresford Town Council approved the position for a person to work one day per week at a cost of £3,630 to the council.

It is understood they will work with the existing team set up to support Bishop’s Waltham, Denmeand and Wickham.

Chairwoman, Lis Griffiths, said: “In some months of the year we already have events, such as the Watercress Festival, Music Festival and the visit of Father Christmas, and so the idea behind the role is to have someone who can co-ordinate and promote a range of fun events throughout the year to bring residents into the town and enhance our community.

“There are lots of things going on whether national or local and we don't have anyone with the time to co-ordinate between the businesses and residents to bring events to fruition - we are full of ideas, just lacking in time!”

It is hoped by dedicating a single person solely responsible for promoting the town’s events it will help to boost tourism for some of the already popular annual events.
