Hursley village fete draws in crowds with World Cup carnival theme
ENGLAND may be out of the running for the World Cup, but that didn’t dampen villagers' spirits as they celebrated their annual summer fete – Brazilian style!
Patriotic bunting lined every building, along Main Road leading up to the fete, which was just as colourful with Brazilian inspired carnival decorations.
Dancers took to the centre to perform a samba and the traditional chocolate custard eating contest was held in the afternoon.
Southampton Football Club mascot, Sammy Saint, popped in and there was entertainment by stilt-walkers Circus Sensible – as well as plate spinning, juggling, diablo and hula-hooping.
Ann Ramsdale, of the organising committee, said: “It’s a whole community event, between the school, church and village. The weather was gorgeous in the morning, and then as soon as we set up it rained! When we started though, the rain stopped.”
She added: “It’s fantastic. We had so many people come along, help out and donate stuff and about 80 volunteers.”
The proceeds will be split 60/40 between the school and All Saints Church.
