MEMBERS of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Army Cadet Force Band have just returned from visiting the World War One battlefields of Belgium.

With the help of individuals from other ACF bands the tour was a huge musical success.

The band performed at the Menin Gate Last Post Ceremony which draws in crowds by the hundreds.

On the march, the band was led by Cadet Sgt Drum Major Rebecca Robinson. When playing under the Menin Gate for the ceremony it was conducted by band’s director music Captain Stephen Croney, guest conductor Major Tex Carlton of Cadet Force Music.

At Tyne Cot Cemetery the band held a drum head service and included readings by the cadets.

When not playing, they paid respects at many of the wartime cemeteries and memorials to the soldiers , not much older than them, who perished in 1914-18.

The band is based at Blightmont TA Centre in Millbrook, Southampton. It aims to help young people between the ages of 12 (and in year 8 at school) and 18 to develop personally and musically. It provides instruments and tuition, and can accept beginners upwards.
