A free gala evening to celebrate 100 years since the theatre first opened, with live performers, films created by local schoolchildren, drinks receptions, live music, comedy and magic.

2. Harvest Flower Festival at St Mary’s Church, Avington, Alresford

The church will be decked out in all its seasonal glory for the two-day event on Saturday and Sunday.

There will be crafts and produce, bric-a-brac, refreshments and cakes, and barrel organ demonstrations.

Entrance including tea is £5, and children go free. The festival is in aid of Itchen Valley Churches.

3. Alresford Scarecrow Festival

From Friday to Sunday the scarecrows will be appearing around the town to raise money for the rood appeal at St John’s church. Concert by Reading Phoenix Choir in church at 7.30pm on Saturday; prize-giving in church on Sunday from 11.30am followed by Scarecrow Uke Band.Hampshire Chronicle:

4. Piglet Racing, Hampshire Farmers’ Market, Winchester

There will be plenty of squeals as the centre-piece of Hampshire Farmers’ Market celebrations with the British Food Fortnight, which runs from September 20 until October 5.

Sunday’s race starts at 10am and runs until 1pm.

There will also be pig-themed competitions, and the chance to vote for the Best Hampshire Sausage.

5. Upham Autumn Flower and Produce Show, Upham Churchyard

There will be lessons for children and adults including classes for the best scarecrow, tallest sunflower and ‘celebration show stopper’ bakery.

6. Danceathon, Kings’ School, Romsey Road, Winchester

Winchester Fit 4 the Future are campaigning for a new leisure centre at Bar End – this is one of their many fundraisers.

7. RM Hubbert at The Railway Inn, Winchester

On Sunday one of Scotland’s finest acoustic guitarists, a struggling soul who has turned grief from the loss of his parents into deeply affecting instrumental work, comes to Winchester on his first UK tour since the end of his Yes campaign.

8. Bishop’s Waltham Art, Design, Antique and Vintage Fair

Artists and designers will sell their own antiques, vintage clothing and retro items as they set up shop in Bishop’s Waltham High Street. The fair is on Sunday, from 10am to 4pm.
