IT was two hours of wiggling and giggling to raise money for a new Winchester leisure centre.

Last Sunday (September 28) a campaign group that wants to build a leisure centre at Bar End and encourage community sports activities held a ‘danceathon’.

Teenagers from across the city turned up at Kings’ School, in Romsey Road, for the Fit 4 the Future event.

Emma Back, campaign coordinator, said: “It was brilliant! It was mostly children but we raised around £100 which was great.

"I think the great thing is that we got a group of people together who hadn’t worked together before and they are already talking about doing another one next year.”

It comes as part of the group’s 2012 Hours campaign, which hopes to promote the Olympic legacy in Winchester.

Warburtons, the bakers, gave dancers food and the school lent the hall for free, which Ms Back said she was ‘incredibly grateful’ for.

Their next event is a static bike challenge in St Maurice’s Covert, Winchester High Street, on October 12.
