WALT Disney said: “There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate’s loot on Treasure Island.”
And that was certainly true for Winchester schoolchildren who celebrated opening their new library at a special ceremony.
Henry Beaufort children and staff gathered for the unveiling of the facility, which includes new chairs, books and a movable whiteboard.
Old book shelves were donated to primary schools across the city to make way new ones as part of the eight-week refurbishment, which cost the school £40,000.
Headteacher Sue Hearle said: “We are delighted with the outcome of the refurbishment of the school library which has allowed us to redesign the space to suit the needs of a 21st century learning environment.
“Our thanks go in particular to Rachael Godlement, the school’s additional learning coordinator, who undertook the project on behalf of the school.”
Kat Priest, marketing coordinator, added: “The library was first built in the 1970s and it’s been refurbished a couple of times since then but not since the 90s, so it was time for a change.
“It’s going down very well. The main focus is the books but we’ve also made way for 16 computers as part of the IT suite so the children can use both the facilities when they need to.”
