IT's taken thousands of years to build Winchester, but one of the city's primary schools did it in just an afternoon as part of a global creative project.

Pupils, parents and staff from Western Primary School recreated the city's major landmarks with cardboard.

They built their own cathedral, guildhall and the Great Hall, along with other well-known features.

The Parent Teacher Association was inspired by The Global Cardboard Challenge, which started from one young boy's imagination. He created an arcade in his father's shop and by chance caught the attention of a filmmaker.

The film went viral and spawned the Imagination Foundation that aims to inspire and encourage play.

Chair of the PTA Vicky Halliden said: "Around 30 families turned up and it was amazing to see what was created.

"We enjoy doing creative things but it was not just for that, we wanted to get the whole community involved."

She added that recently the PTA raised £3,000 for resurfacing the school's play area, and wanted to do something for another charity.

Donations from ice lolly and tea sales went to Winchester Churches Nightshelter.
