POLICE are appealing for information after a driver failed to stop following a crash which left an elderly man seriously injured.

The 88-year-old was driving a silver Saab in Winchester Road, Durley, around 2pm on Sunday (July 26) when his car was in collision with a red Citroen C3.

Before police arrived the Citroen driver left the scene.

The elderly man had to be freed from the car and was taken to Southampton General Hospital with serious leg injuries.

The scene was cordoned off for several hours for enquiries to take place.

Sgt Dave Sanderson said: "This collision was a horrible ordeal for this elderly couple.

"Failing to stop after a road accident of this nature is a very serious matter and we are very keen to find the driver of the Citroen as soon as possible."
