TIME is beginning to run out to enter Winchester Rotary’s annual swim next month.

The event will be held at Winchester College’s 25-metre pool on Saturday February 20.

Taking part in this year’s Swimathon will be Olympic swimmer Kathy Read who is pictured checking out the pool with president Anthony Arkwright and fundraising director Fiona Whitehouse.

Kathy competed in the 1984, 1988 and 1992 Olympics, won silver and bronze at the Commonwealth Games in 1986 and 1994, and bronze in the European Championships in 1993.

Last year’s Swimathon helped the teams taking part raise £6,350 for their chosen charities and Fiona is looking for more teams to compete in raising money this year.

Rotary is also offering to recover Gift Aid from donations made. There are four team prizes of £50 restaurant vouchers to win - one for the team with the most flamboyant dress and one each for the top three teams based on number of lengths swum and amount raised.

Hourly bookings can be arranged from 8-11am or 1-5pm. Team sizes of between four to eight people are suggested with members swimming in relay for 55 minutes.

Registration costing just £25 can be made online at winchesterrotary.org.uk/swim.
