A SEVERE weather warning has been issued for the South.

It comes after blankets of snow covered parts of America last week and now people in the south are set to get stormy weather on Wednesday.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning with heavy rainfall and gales expected near the coast for most of the day.

The weather is expected to affect parts of Hampshire and Southampton as well as the Isle of Wight and at the moment it is estimated to last from 3am till 6pm.

The warning says: “An area of rain will move southeastwards across southern England during Wednesday. Some locally heavy rainfall is possible with this falling on saturated ground some localised flooding is possible. Southwesterly gales are likely along the south coast for a time.

“Please be aware of the potential for local disruption to travel from flooding and some difficult driving conditions.”

The Chief Forecaster said they will expect “persistent” rain with accumulations of 20mm expected and 40mm in more rural spots and the warning is being kept under review.
