THE much-admired model of Victorian Winchester could soon have a permanent home.

Civic chiefs hope that the model will be housed at the City Museum as part of a refurbishment plan for the ground floor.

The model, created by the late Roger Brown, who died last year has only be seen for short spells.

The town forum set aside £5,000 towards the cost of the project.

The Hampshire Cultural trust that now runs the City Museum, on The square, wants to undertake the refurbishment this autumn, at a total cost of £160,000.

One disadvantage of the proposal is that popular displays such as the displays of old shops will need to be removed.

The only alternative location for permanent display was the Tourist Information Centre at the Guildhall.
