WITH Wimbledon less than two months away the tennis season is getting into full swing.
But not many shoppers in Winchester were expecting the sport, traditionally played on enclosed courts, to come to the High Street.
Winchester Tennis Festival was enjoyed by hundreds of people who enjoyed mastering the sport on the temporary courts, which were put in place in the flat areas.
There was also a variety of tennis related activities for people to enjoy.
Head of Sport and Physical Activity at Winchester City Council Amanda Ford said: “These events are the perfect opportunity for families to have fun, playing tennis, right in the heart of our beautiful city.
“Everyone who attends can also find out how to take advantage of the new summer membership offer for families at their nearest tennis club.”
The event was part of a Winchester City Council and Lawn Tennis Association (LTA's) forthcoming tennis initiatives.
There will be another festival in the city on August 29 and the Great British Tennis Weekend will come to River Park Leisure Centre on May 14 and 15.
