A 49-year-old man has been arrested in Winchester for possessing 'legal highs' with intent to supply.

Winchester Neighbourhood Team has been tackling the issue of the distribution of New Psychoactive Substances (NPS) – which were previously known as legal highs.

On July 19 cops arrested a the unidentified man for possession with intent to supply. He is currently on bail.

The city has been at the centre of multiple 'legal high' issues, from problems at Winchester Prison to the closing of a shop selling the substances in Stockbridge Road.

The government introduced a blanket ban on 'legal highs' in May.

The legislation criminalises the production, distribution, sale and supply of psychoactive substances. Offenders face up to seven years in prison.

If you witness any drug dealing or suspicious behaviour relating to the distribution of NPS you can call police on 101.
