WINCHESTER Rotary has installed its President for the 2016-17 year with Fiona Whitehouse taking over from outgoing President Anthony Arkwright.

Businesswoman Fiona, runs her own business PA Anywhere, which provides “virtual” admin support to small businesses and charities.

During her year as President, she plans to add to the fundraising plans a focus on charities connected with hearing impairment, having been born profoundly deaf herself.

During the 2016-17 year, Winchester Rotary will be celebrating its 90th anniversary as well as the global centenary of the Rotary Foundation.

Meanwhile Winchester Rotary says it is is delighted with Alresford Rotary to sponsor Torrin Hoynes, from Peter Symonds College as a participant in the Rotary Georgia Scholars scheme.

The Mayor, Cllr Jane Rutter, welcomed Torrin to Abbey House recently, to wish him well for his year in Georgia.

He is the eighth Symonds student in 10 years to take part in the scheme to study for a year in Georgia, USA. – Since 1946, Rotarians in Georgia, USA, have promoted world peace through understanding by offering scholarships to international students for one year of study in Georgia colleges and universities.

Georgia Rotary Clubs sponsor students recommended by a Rotary Club in their home country. The students become adopted members of a Georgia “host family,” living on-campus at the college they attend.
