TORRENTIAL rain and storm-force winds are set to batter the south coast this weekend.

A weather warning for wind and rain has been issued by the Met Office and Hampshire residents are being warned to be aware of conditions.

The warning runs from Sunday morning until 3pm and wind speeds could reach 65mph on the coast.

A Met Office statement says: "Please be aware of the risk of difficult driving conditions due to localised surface water flooding and possible debris from trees.

"20-30 mm of rain could fall within a 6-12 hour period.

"Although these amounts of rain are not unusual, when combined with gales some localised impacts are expected.

"Conditions are expected to improve from the southwest later on Sunday."
