WINCHESTER Cathedral was awash with colour for the annual Christmas Lantern Procession.

Hundreds of children proudly held their creations inside and outside the historic building.

Meanwhile hundreds of parents and residents in the city watched on and cheered as children displayed a range of lanterns varying in shapes and sizes.

There were were a range of Christmas themed lanterns which even included a Christmas jellyfish, BB-8 from Star Wars and even Pokemon character Pikachu.

A spokesman for Winchester Cathedral said: “It is a big success everybody has thoroughly enjoyed themselves it is great to see so many people around.”
Canon Roly Riem, Acting Dean, said: “I am just so impressed by the enormous effort people have made and the people that took part last year and came back and tried something new, it really is the church, families and the streets coming together to do something creative.”

The children were given help by Bella Crafts who held lantern workshops in Romsey.

The main difference this year compared to last year’s event was the route, which was focused around the cathedral grounds.

The event also saw people enjoy a spot of Christmas carols and the evening ended in style with a dazzling fireworks display
