SUPPORT to save a phonebox in Shawford is strong according to the parish council leader.
As reported in the Chronicle, BT is seeking to remove thousands of payphones across the nation due to the rise of mobile phones.
Currently BT is consulting on decommissioning around 14,000 boxes across the UK including the one in Shawford Road.
Leader of Compton and Shawford Parish Council Mike Southgate said that the council is keen on adopting the phonebox and fitting in a defibrillator in it, however he pointed out an issue maybe the maintenance costs which would fall under the parish council's responsibilities.
