NETWORK Rail have pledged to continue looking into additional parking at Micheldever Station.

The body have said they will investigate existing space around the site to see if they can provide more spaces.

The news comes after a clamp down on parking at the station was approved by the council this month.

The traffic and parking committee decided to impose a range of waiting and parking restrictions to deal with on-street parking.

The car park is regularly full, meaning commuters are using the roads around the village to park.

Network Rail spokesperson Owen Johns said: "Over the last few months, we have met Steve Brine, a number of stakeholders including Micheldever Parish Council, a commuter who uses the station, South West Trains, councillor James Byrnes, and an officer from Winchester City Council to discuss the parking situation.

"We have listened to their concerns, investigated a range of options and informed the MP, who is coordinating the discussions, that while there is no cheap and quick solution to the issue because of the lack of available land at and near to the site, we are continuing to look into the matter.

"One option we are continuing to investigate is to use some of the space around our existing substation on the eastern side of the tracks for additional parking.

"This site has been earmarked for additional safety-related electrical equipment that is due to be installed in 2018, but when we have a better idea of how much space is required for the equipment, we are happy to revisit the issue to see if any unused space could be used to provide additional car parking facilities. We are also looking into freight leased land near to the station."

Following the committee meeting, around 50, unrestricted on-street parking spaces near the station, will be cut by 20 to 25 spaces.

The traffic regulation order (TRO) will be implemented through a combination of single yellow lines and permit holder only parking The plans are also aimed at solving visibility and obstruction issues, as well as access problems along Overton Road and to provide passing places for traffic.
