WINCHESTER's most chronic problem will be the addressed at a public meeting on Tuesday June 13.
Movement in Winchester: Learning from Oxford's approach to traffic will be at the Discovery centre in Jewry Street, starting at 7.30pm.
Traffic congestion has been a perennial problem in the city since the 1920s and today makes the city centre among the most polluted places in southern England.
The speakers will Ben Hamilton-Baillie, an urban designer and advocate of 'shared space' whereby streets have all furniture, railings removed so drivers and pedestrians have to take extra care.Also speaking will be Bev Hindle of Oxfordshire County Council.
The meeting will be chaired by Cllr Jan Warwick, cabinet member
at the Conservative-controlled city council.
There will be a follow-up meeting organised by WinACC on Saturday July 1 at St Lawrence's Parish Room, Colebrook Street at 10.30am.
