BBC’s JON Sopel will share insights into President Trump’s America at a special event in Winchester Cathedral this autumn.

Tickets are released for sale to the general public next week for Mr Sopel’s lecture on Washington and North America, on Saturday September 9 at 7.30pm.

The renowned journalist, who attended Southampton University, started his career on Radio Solent and once lived in Ropley, near Alresford, is beamed into millions of living rooms from the White House Lawn almost daily.

He has experienced the ‘Greatest Country on Earth’ in a way others can only dream of, for the last few months sharing the ups and downs of Donald Trump’s extraordinary presidency with viewers across the country.

At the Friends of Winchester Cathedral’s Annual Lecture, Mr Sopel will use his many first-hand experiences – travelling aboard Air Force One, interviewing President Obama, questioning President Trump, gun shows, Missouri riots – to show that the USA is, now more than ever, a truly foreign land.

Tickets £22 (concessions for multiple purchases, students and Friends) are available from Winchester Cathedral Box Office from June 12, 01962 857275 or online at www.winchester-cathedral.org.uk.

If Only They Didn’t Speak English by Jon Sopel will be published by BBC Books on September 7 and a book-signing will take place after the talk.
