The Pavilion Project launched a crowdfunding campaign at Hat Fair on North Walls Recreation Ground last Sunday. The group teamed up with Live Event Artist, Lucy McLoughlin, who held painting workshops for all ages and hat-decorating for children.

Mike Caldwell, project coordinator, was delighted with the day: “Hat Fair was a terrific location to launch our crowdfunding campaign; it was a great day – albeit a very hot one! The team had the opportunity to chat to dozens of people who showed overwhelming support and enthusiasm for the project. Community support is vital and we feel that we have this in spades.”

The Pavilion Project is a community group and registered charity working with local award-winning architects AR Design Studio to replace the dilapidated cricket pavilion and scoring huts on North Walls Recreation Ground in Winchester. The new pavilion will be used by a variety of sports clubs, community groups and local schools; the building will be accessible, sustainable and available for all-year-round use. Planning permission for the proposed pavilion was granted in January this year.

The City Council has allocated funds for the new pavilion and The Pavilion Project team secured substantial funding from Sport England last year; with funds raised through several local events the group has secured about 60% of the amount needed to make the project a reality.
