Alresford residents campaigning for bus service to be restored
ANGRY residents in Alresford have launched a campaign to resurrect a local bus service.
A big chunk of the town lost its buses when Stagecoach rejigged the service late last year cutting the service down Sun Lane in favour of more buses on Jacklyns Lane and New Farm Road.
Jan Harding has organised a petition and gathered some 125 signatures from people in the Sun Hill area and spoke at last week’s town council meeting. Town councillors expressed support for her efforts.
Dr Harding, of Derwent Gardens, later said: “It used to take me three minutes to get to the bus stop, now it is nearer 15.
“People feel very angry, they feel abandoned. Some people are feeling very stressed out.
“People living in this south-east corner of Alresford are not going into Winchester so much to shop. Others are using their cars more.”
Dr Harding added: “We would like to see the 67 re-routed back into Nursery to Sun Lane, Tichborne Down to the Cricketers pub.
Other villages affected by the cuts, introduced on October 30, are Old Alresford which no longer has a bus service.
