HAMPSHIRE faces traffic chaos this morning as torrential rain and high winds batter the south.

A month's worth of rain is expected in just days as the Met Office has issued a severe weather warning this morning.

The county is bracing itself for rainfall of 25mm in just hours and wind speeds are set to soar to 50mph.

Delays have already been reported on roads across the south.

A tree fell in Kings Worthy blocking both directions of the A33 Basingstoke Road between the B3047 junction and the Bridgetts Lane junction.

Red Funnel ferries, which leave from Southampton, warn of delays in their service this morning.

The Met Office issued a yellow warning this morning.

Forecasters say a band of heavy rain will move north across the region followed by heavy and locally thundery downpours for the rest of the day.

The rain will be accompanied by strong and gusty southeasterly winds.

They urge members of the public to be aware of surface water flooding and poor driving conditions.

How come in any report on weather the only thing mentioned is traffic and driving conditions.

Are we so dependant on the car that all we think about is that?

I have issued a RED warning for our garden. The bird bath is overflowing and we have lost a section of guttering. I have taken the advice of the Met Office regarding surface water and have coned off the part of the patio which is under 2mm of water. This may be my last e-mail. Wish me luck.
