AN Alresford mother and son have taken first prize for local runners in the town’s 10km race.

Sporty mother and son Lou and Jack Walker won a year’s membership at Evolution Health & Fitness Gym after being the first male and female residents to cross the finish line in the Alresford Rotary 10km.

Jack, former Perins pupil and current student at Peter Symonds College, finished 18th overall while his mother, an ironman triathlete, finished 103rd. Both are also members of Winchester & District Athletics Club.

Lou said: “Jack and I are both chuffed to bits with this fantastic prize. I’ve been a member at Evolution for a while and it’s the friendliest gym I’ve ever been to.”

The membership is worth £395 each and the prize added a big incentive to the race for local runners according to rotary president Jonathan Read.

Mr Read, who organised the race, said: “The addition of the prizes for local runners from Evolution Health & Fitness was a great incentive for our competitors and I know the winners have been very excited to win such a great prize. We hope we can work with Evolution again next year and will look to extend the catchment area for the prize to draw more competitors from around the area.”
