Winchester charity set to go national after lottery funding boost
A Winchester charity is about to go national thanks to £7.2m of lottery funding.
The Public Service Broadcasting Trust, from its offices in St Thomas Street, uses the media to mobilise people into taking positive social action.
After a year-long hiatus, they have re-launched Fixers, which helps youths across the south to tackle issues close to their hearts. Their achievements are then highlighted within ITV regional news.
Peter Ainsworth, chairman at the Big Lottery Fund, said: “By providing a platform to highlight their voluntary work and many achievements, Fixers demonstrates the positive contribution thousands of committed young people are making at a local level and challenges negative stereotypes.”
The re-launch took place on ITV on October 4, with items in Meridian Tonight. The event was marked by a reception in the trust’s offices attended by city and county councillors, youth charities, broadcasters and a number of young people involved in Fixers.
Winchester and Chandler’s Ford MP Steve Brine, who will host a parliamentary reception for Fixers in Westminster next year, said: “Fixers is a real success story that is offering something unique to young people around the country. I am very proud that it has its roots in Winchester.”
