Another new patron for Winchester climate campaigners
Winchester climate change campaigners have appointed another new patron.
Tim Jackson, principal of Sparsholt College, was appointed by Winchester Action on Climate Change (WinACC) at its AGM last Saturday.
Mr Jackson is an applied biologist who worked with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food before teaching and becoming principal at Sparsholt in 1998.
Sustainability is important to Sparsholt and he is keen to broaden the curriculum to include emerging occupations that are developing in environmentally sustainable technology.
WinACC director Chris Holloway said: “WinACC values its links with education and young people, and we try to base all our activities on solid intellectual foundations. So we are delighted that Tim is to join Joy Carter, vice chancellor of the University of Winchester, as a WinACC patron. We hope to work together to develop local skills in the green economy.”
Mr Jackson said: “I am delighted to be invited to become a WinACC patron. I have attended several of their events and have been most impressed with their approach in considering the challenges facing our environment.”
WinACC was founded in 2007 and aims to cut the carbon footprint of Winchester district by 30 per cent between 2004 and the end of 2015.
