Jon Saltmarsh scored his first goal of the season to earn fifth-placed Winchester a 2-2 draw from their visit to Hampshire/Surrey Regional Division 1 rivals Epsom.

Saltmarsh earned the city side a share of the spoils after two-goal James Harris had cancelled out the early lead teenager Harry Over gave Winchester.

The visitors’ early lead came after a finely threaded through ball from the returning Rob Craddock was chased on to by Over.

The youngster’s pace and strength under pressure allowed him to burst into the right hand shoulder of the circle and blast a cleanly struck shot low across the Epsom keeper.

Winchester should have doubled their lead after Craig Jeffrey crashed a ball clean across the Epsom goal and duly paid the penalty for their miss moments later when Epsom burst through to equalise.

Epsom were dominant for the first 20 minutes of the second half and after taking the lead through a second Harris strike looked to be home and dry. But Winchester responded well, however, and the back line of Boniface, Jackson and Tollefsen stood firm prior to Saltmarsh’s leveller.
