Hampshire golfer and US Open champion Justin Rose has been forced to withdraw from next week's Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship with a shoulder injury.

A statement from Rose's management company read: "Due to the extended schedule he had in place during the end of the 2013 year, Justin Rose developed a mild case of tendinitis affecting his right shoulder.

"Doctor's reports are positive, but with rest and rehab as the only means of recovery, he will be forced to delay his start to the 2014 calendar season and will unfortunately miss the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and the Farmers Insurance Open.

"With this necessary time to heal, Justin likely will return to action in February."

Rose struggled with the injury at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai in November, where he was unable to prevent Henrik Stenson from winning the tournament and with it the European Tour Race to Dubai title.
