James Vince failed to capitalise when the England Lions' batsmen had their first chance to impress in the wake of Kevin Pietersen's axing.

The Hampshire batsman was out for 18, one of victims for unorthodox spinner Akila Dananjaya, before England closed the first day of their match against Sri Lanka A Emerging Players in Colombo on 327-5.

Opening batsman Alex Lees’ maiden England Lions century made light of tricky batting conditions.

He share a first-wicket stand of 152 with Varun Chopra (47) and went on to make 119.

James Taylor (47) and Jonny Bairstow (45) missed out on fifties before Vince was cleaned up by Dananja.
