THE annual Thornden Junior Tennis Open saw 90 children from the south compete for several trophies.

Sponsored by A & A Business Supplies, the LTA tournament attracted players from 11 different counties.

Organiser Paul Scullard said: “Hampshire, Dorset, Cornwall, Surrey, Hertfordshire, Middlesex, Sussex, Wiltshire, Kent, Somerset and Avon were all represented and it was well run by well-known local referee Chris Whiting.”

The 18 & U Boys trophy was won by Sam Charles, who beat fellow Hampshire player David Darrock in the final.

Other Hampshire winners included Zizheng Jin (14 & U Boys) and Magda Kornijczuk (10 & U mixed).

Zizheng Jin also won the 14 & U Doubles tournament, with Liam Hignett, while Nishant Talpallikar (12 & U Boys), Ryan Guy and William Penrose (14 & U Boys) reached their semi-finals.

Winner: Owen Martel (Wiltshire) beat Tim Durojaye (Somerset) 10-8 2-7 7-4.

9 & U (Orange Ball) Girls
Winner: Francesca Davis (Berkshire) beat Milly Davis (Dorset) 7-1 7-4.

10 & U (Green Ball) Mixed
Winner: Magda Kornijczuk beat Ben Eaton 4-1 5-4.

12 & U Boys
Benjamin Hart (Surrey) beat Tanmay Thanawalla (Middlesex) 4-1 4-2.

12 & U Boys Consolation (not played)
Finalists - Nishant Talpallikar & Noah Burton (Sussex).

14 & U Boys
Zizheng Jin beat Gregor Shaw (Sussex) 6-4 6-3.

14 & U Boys Consolation
Ryan Guy beat William Penrose 7-6 6-2.

16& U Boys
Joseph Blakeley (Somerset) beat Oscar Gordon-Reid (Kent) 4-1 4-2.

16 & U Boys Consolation (not played)

Winner: Sam Charles. Runner Up: David Darrock.

14& U Doubles
