Snows Group Hampshire 1 title race going down to the wire

Romsey Advertiser: Andover (black) can win the league title tomorrow Andover (black) can win the league title tomorrow

One of the most exciting seasons in Snows Group Hampshire 1 history will finally be decided tomorrow.

It has been nip and tuck between a handful of sides since the campaign kicked off.

The lead has changed hands several times, with up to six clubs having an eye on the title or the second-place play-off slot at some point.

But there are just two teams left standing – with current leaders Andover favourite to pip Fordingbridge to the post and end their two-season stay in Hampshire 1.

Both clubs are in red-hot form and both face sides from the other end of the table tomorrow – ’Bridge take on struggling Southampton (having already crushed them 94-0 away) while Andover, who have a massive points advantage, have a home game against basement boys Overton.

If Fordingbridge do end up second, they will take part in a one-off promotion match for the third season in a row. Chairman Ian Brown said: “This has been a fantastic season for Snows Hampshire 1. “It’s been tense right to the end but Andover are now in the driving seat.

“All we can do is win our game and get our bonus point – we are just so proud of what the boys have done.

“If we get in the play-offs we will do our best – let’s hope it’s third time lucky.”

Andover coach Andy Waite said: “Hopefully whoever doesn’t go up will win the play off anyway as both clubs have been superb all season.”

Millbrook deserve the league’s third place and they will hope to finish off in style against regular Hampshire 1 opponents US Portsmouth at Five Acres.

Team Solent have had a successful first season at this level and set the pace for much of the early part of the campaign. They head out of the county to take on Bognor.

Things are not quite so clear cut at the other end of the table – apart from the fate of bottom club Overton, who are slipping back into Hampshire 2.

Form says they will be joined by Southampton but Romsey and the Isle of Wight can still slip through the trap door.

Champions Petersfield and Fareham Heathens have gone up in Hampshire 2.
