Despite a valiant effort, OTs & Romsey first team fell to their second loss of the season.

Rowledge (261-9) beat OTs & Romsey (222 all out) by 39 runs in SEPCL Division 2.

Rowledge opened the batting, getting off to a slow start as Daniel Mogg took an early wicket for Romsey.

However, batsmen three, four and five for Rowledge all managed to score half centuries, before being dismissed by Pete Newman, Stuart Shapland and Inayat Ullah respectively. The three ended with two wickets each as Rowledge finished on 261-9.

After a slow start, Romsey were 39-3 but then came to the crease, Charlie King and Rob Newman. The pair managed a 144 run partnership for the fourth wicket, giving Romsey hope for victory. Newman then fell for 86, in an innings which included 13 fours and one six.

And King was caught out for 54 and with Romsey failing to add many runs from the tail, the team were all out for 222.

In Hampshire League County Division 2 OTs & Romsey II (251-9) beat Cadnam (191-7) by 60 runs The 2nd XI opened their county 2 season knowing they already had a 10 point admin penalty.

But the Romsey team were ready to go. Mike Trodd, new skipper, lost the toss and was asked to bat.

New opening partnership of Nick Destefano and Ieuan Wathen started brightly with nine off the first over.

And it continued as they quickly set about the Cadnam opening Bowlers. Wathen started to find the boundary and the score pushed on.

Wathen brought up his 50 with a huge six over mid-wicket.

The 100 partnership was brought up in the 18th over and at drinks the score was 132 for 0.

Cadnam then brought on the wiley old bowler Paul Kerley. Straight after drinks he removed Destefano (37), then Wathen was finally caught on the boundary for 82.

The onslaught to the Cadnam bolwers carried on by the Trodd brothers. Mike (37) was run out trying to push the score on, but Keith scored an intelligent 60.

Others came and went – then Harry Tulk scored a quick 14 not out as Romsey finished on 271 for 7 from their 45 overs.

Cadnam’s reply never started at the pace Romsey’s did and they found themselves very quickly behind the run rate.

Steve Kay got the first wicket with Richard Way caught in the deep by Harry Tulk.

Then young Tulk managed to remove Nathan Way and overseas pro Ashley Mortimer came to the crease and was sent packing two balls later by Tulk.
