OWAIS Shah has a chance to win two T20 tournaments in the space of a week – in the Caribbean and England!

The batsman is currently playing alongside West Indian big hitter Chris Gayle for Jamaica in the Caribbean t20 competition.

After seven games, Jamaica are second in the qualifying group with Shah having top scored in his side’s most recent victory.

As reported in Monday’s Daily Echo, Hampshire are hopeful of Shah returning to England to play for them in their fifth successive T20 Finals Day at Edgbaston on August 23.

Former Middlesex and Essex ace Shah played five matches for Hampshire in the group stages, and is needed for Finals Day as Glenn Maxwell and Kyle Abbott will be absent on international duty.

Shah, batting at No 3, top scored with 42 for Jamaica in their win over Barbados last weekend.

Former Hampshire star Neil McKenzie managed just nine in reply.

In all, the South African has only scored 16 runs in his three Barbados innings.

In his previous outing, Shah had struck an unbeaten 21 off 28 balls as Jamaica defeated Guyana.

He was overshadowed, though, by Andre Russell coming in at No 6 and thrashing six sixes in an unbeaten 58 off 24 balls.

Shah has not managed to bat in three of his seven games, due to the presence of Gayle at the top of the Jamaica order.

Twice Jamaica restricted Antigua to less than 90, and Shah was not needed to bat in either game.

In another game against Guayana, Gayle smashed 10 sixes in an unbeaten 111 – amazingly, his 12th T20 century.

Gayle is currently the leading runscorer in the tournament with 339 at an average of 67.80, with Shah having scored 65 runs from four innings at 21.66.

Among their Jamaica colleagues are ex-Hampshire and Australian ODI batsman Adam Voges, South African Juan Theron, and New Zealand spinner Daniel Vettori.

Shah, 35, has now played t20 domestic cricket in England, New Zealand, India, Australia, South Africa, Bangladesh and the Caribbean.

He has played for over 10 different teams, including three Indian Premier League franchises – Rajasthan, Kolkata and Kolchi.
