Chris Quinn launched a sensational fightback in the final of the European Senior Ladies’ Team Championship to end a long wait for an elusive gold medal in the tournament.

The Hockley ace helped to deliver England’s winning point, with an incredible rally that earned them a 3.5-1.5 victory over France, at Gut Altentann Golf Club, in Austria. Quinn and her foursomes partner, Lulu Housman, had been in dire straits when they found themselves five down with nine to play against French duo Laurence Rozner and Virgine Burrus.

However, they then mounted an incredible comeback, winning the next seven holes to take the lead, before sealing a 2&1 win in their match with a par at the 17th.

Earlier, England had earned 2.5 points from a possible four in the singles encounters.

England have been represented in eight of the nine years that the championship has taken place, with Quinn playing in every one of those sides.

However, until this latest edition, she had never tasted gold.

Instead, she had to be content with three silvers and two bronze medals, before finally topping the podium this time round.

“The team stuck to their game plans and played their hearts out to win the gold medal,” said captain Pat Wrightson.
