Tottonians’ tight defence was in good form for a second week – this time refusing to give anything away as they chalked up their first bonus point win.

But it was not just a solid wall of defence that led to their 36-0 SW2 home victory over Portsmouth – it was a top all round performance.

Totts though, had to soak up ten minutes off pressure and had Ieaun Williams sin-binned for retaliation before they got into their stride.

They settled and were 15-0 up by half-time with captain Robbie Searle setting them on their way with a penalty, a break away try in the corner and conversion that ricocheted kindly off the post.

Totts’ second try of the half came when Scott Rogers made a break from his 22 and was hit with a high tackle. With a penalty kick to touch and lineout, back row Dan Taylor touched down from a catch and drive.

The third followed five minutes into the second half – Sam Cranton crashed over after good work from Mike Searle and Richard Buck.

With Portsmouth’s hooker off the pitch for ten minutes a penalty try brought up the bonus point for Tottonians. That resulted from another dominating, driving maul from a line-out which saw an opponent come in from the side which was penalised by the referee.

With a couple of minutes remaining Totts caught and drove once more with Dan Taylor again at the back to touch down.
