HAMPSHIRE’S Justin Rose has helped Europe to a leading position after today’s fourballs – and could be on course for a record.

No European player has ever won all five matches at a Ryder Cup, but Rose is three from three and a dead cert to play this afternoon.

Rose said earlier: “I told the captain I was ready for five and I very much want to play this afternoon. Sometimes you just have to go.

“Ian Poulter’s showed me the way and obviously we’ve been partners before. That’s how we've amassed a great partnership together.”

This morning’s session saw Europe finish with a 6 1/2 to 5 1/2 lead, after the USA team clawed back a point in the fourballs.

Rose and team-mate Henrik Stenson were the only European duo to win their match, beating Bubba Watson and Matt Kuchar 3&2. After the match Rose said: “We were up against two great players and they played really well.

“But I really read the greens well today and had that anticipation – when you see the ball going into the hole you get those positive vibes and today everything just went right for me.”

This afternoon Rose and Germany’s Martin Kaymer are paired against Jordan Speith and Patrick Reed in the foursomes.
