Millbrook made the most of an opportunity to edge their way closer to the Snows Group Hampshire 1 leaders.

Brook defeated bottom side Romsey 38-13 at Five Acres as leaders US Portsmouth’s home match against Fordingbridge and second-placed Bognor’s game against Alton were postponed due to waterlogged pitches.

Brook made a flying start against Romsey with centre Mark Colmer and full-back Rhys Fehners finishing off three fluent backs moves.

Flanker Garrie Silverthorn also got in on the action and crossed the line after a good offload from front row Jason Berry.

Rich Colmer added two conversions and, with Romsey crossing the line following a line out move and a penalty shot at goal, Millbrook led at the break 24-8.

Brook continued to control the game after the break and Silverthorn added a second try after a break from fly-half Rich Colmer.

Berry also showed decent pace to sprint in for a try himself.

With both converted, Millbrook led 38-8.

Romsey, to their credit, continued their efforts and scored late on.

Brook skipper Mike Randell said: “This was a good performance from us with further gears to come.

“We hope to get into these with some big games coming up.”

Fareham Heathens maintained their good start to life in Hampshire 1 with a 21-10 home win over Isle of Wight.

Undefeated Snows Group Hampshire 2 leaders Locks Heath Pumas returned from Nomads with a 43-0 win.

Second-placed Ventnor had a successful trip to the mainland when they defeated Southampton 10-0.
