CYCLING: Totton’s Jon Dibben finished 12th in the omnium at the UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Paris.
Colombian Fernando Rendon Gaviria won the five-event competition, while Glenn O’Shea of Australia took silver with Italian Elia Viviani in third.
The 21-year-old was then forced to pull out due to illness from the Madison event on Sunday at the National Velodrome at Saints-Quentin en Yvelines, in the French capital.
Mark Christian – a teammate of Dibben’s in Sir Bradley Wiggins’ newly formed professional race team – stepped in.
Dibben tweeted: “Gutted, won’t start the Madison today as stranded sick in bed. Handed the place into solid hands with @MarkChristian8, bonne chance.”
