RUGBY-playing youngsters could be left broken hearted if they don’t raise £750 to cover the costs of competing in a semi-final competition.

Ellingham and Ringwood Rugby Club Under 14s squad have just over a week to get the funds together and are appealing for the community’s help to bring their dreams of cup glory a step closer.

They are due to face Vectis on the Isle of Wight a week on Sunday as part of the Hampshire Cup.

Mark Johnson, the manager of the under 14s squad, said: “Although we are a small squad we have come through some very hard times over the last few years and are now reaping the benefits of all the hard work and efforts that have been put in by every boy in the squad, and reaching a county semi-final is no mean feat.”

The £750 needed will go towards the costs of getting the squad’s 25 members, coaches and kit over to the Isle of Wight for the competition and back again.

Mr Johnson added: “"If we don't raise the funds for the trip we run the risk of sending a depleted squad to the semi-final.

This would be a shame, especially as it is unusual for a small club like Ellingham and Ringwood to be competing against the Hampshire elite."

Last year, the Under 14s squad won the Leicester Tigers Challenge Trophy in Minehead and is hoping to keep up this winning form.

The squad is appealing to any businesses or individuals in the town who can help them with this fundraising feat.
