Tottonians overcame another tricky fixture at the weekend as they continued to inch their way towards promotion.

Totts brought Weybridge Vandals’ unbeaten run of ten London 2 South-West games to an abrupt end with a 36-8 victory at Water Lane.

The five-try win meant the leaders pulled away from second-placed London Cornish – 17-0 winners at Old Reigatian – by another point. Third-placed Winchester dropped off the chase when they narrowly lost out at Effingham & Leatherhead.

Totts got on the scoreboard against Vandals after just four minutes when skipper Robbie Searle slotted home a penalty.

Good work off the back of a scrum by Ieuan Williams soon after saw a break from Robbie Searle, who fed full back Stuart Davies to cross the whitewash.

Williams increased the lead when he touched down from a catch-and-drive and Scott Rogers helped Totts to a 22-3 half-time advantage, along with a couple of Robbie Searle conversions.

The bonus point came shortly after the interval as scrum half Harry Dolbear dummied his way over.

Williams and Ali Ramus were then lost to injury and Totts went down to 14 when prop Nathan Burns was yellow carded.

Vandals struck with their only try during that period but the contest had long been sewn up before Robbie Searle’s 60m sprint from an interception finished off the scoring.

Head coach Gavin Williams said: “That was a hard-fought match but I’m delighted with the performance and attitude of the players.

“Despite injuries to key players, lock Ali Ramus and number 8 Ieuan Williams, the side kept their shape and dominated a strong Vandals team.

“Neither injury is serious and both players are expected to be fit and available for the important matches to come,” added Williams, who named centre Mike Searle as man of the match.
