Record-breaking US Portsmouth did Millbrook a massive favour when they chalked up their 18th bonus point victory on the trot.
The Services side – the only club in England leagues to have won as many bonus point victories in a row – resoundingly beat Bognor. That guaranteed Brook a shot at promotion to the London leagues through the play-offs.
However, that was only half the story as Millbrook still had to make sure they won their Snows Group Hampshire 1 clash at Farnborough.
And they did that in style, taking all the points with a 44-27 away victory.
Farnborough went in front but by half time Brook had established an 18-8 lead with a couple of tries from winger Mike Randell and Rich Colmer’s boot.
Brook pushed on after the break as they went in search of a bonus point. That came with a try from Darren Leggot from the kick-off and another soon after from Barney Jones.
Farnborough hit back with a try of their own but never really looked like competing.
Brook extended their score to 44 points with a Rich Colmer try, conversion and penalty before the home breached the Brook defence twice with late scores.
Brook skipper Randell said: “We’ve given ourselves a chance for promotion by guaranteeing the play-off spot. There is still work to do though, including beating Bognor next week and pushing for the home advantage.”
