EASTLEIGH have today announced winger Lee Cook as their fourth summer signing.

The 32-year-old Londoner, who was with Vanarama Conference champions Barnet last season, is no stranger to this neck of the woods having started his career with Southampton.

After leaving Saints, Hammersmith-born Cook moved into non-League football with Aylesbury United before launching into a Football League career with Watford in 1999.

He made 59 appearances during five years with the Hornets, scoring seven goals, before making a tribunal-set £150,000 move to QPR where he had previously impressed on loan.

Cook joined Premier League side Fulham in the summer of 2007 but was hampered by a knee injury and spent time on loan at Charlton and QPR, eventually re-signing for Rangers in 2009.

He made 47 appearances for Leyton Orient during the 2012/13 season and then headed to Athens-based Apollon Smyrni to play in the Greek Super League under former Barnet boss Lawrie Sanchez.

Cook made a superb start to his Bees career and ended the season with eight goals from 32 league starts.

Barnet manager Martin Allen said that releasing him this summer had been his “hardest decision”.

“Cookie has won us games with his brilliant skills and shooting ability,” said the Bees boss.

“He has been a real help to me off the pitch with help and guidance and he has been a model professional.

“He’s a diamond bloke, a great player and a champion.”

Cook joins midfielder Josh Payne, striker Ross Lafayette and defender Joe Partington in the Eastleigh arrivals lounge ahead of the new Vanarama National League campaign.
