Glamorgan have parted company with groundsman Keith Exton following the abandonment of their Royal London One-Day Cup match against Hampshire.

The Welsh county had already suspended head groundsman Exton ahead of Monday’s double-header between England and Australia at Cardiff's Swalec Stadium, where James Vince could make his T20 international debut.

Exton was put on ‘gardening leave’ after Glamorgan's game against Hampshire was abandoned due to a dangerous wicket when Jimmy Adams was struck on the helmet from a good-length ball by Glamorgan seamer Michael Hogan.

After an initial enquiry, Hampshire took both points from the 'no-result', while an England and Wales Cricket Board panel docked Glamorgan two points and fined them £9,000.

A Glamorgan statement read: “Glamorgan County Cricket Club can confirm Keith Exton has left his role as Head Groundsman with immediate effect.

“The club would to thank Keith for his role in establishing The SSE SWALEC as a firm fixture in the international cricket calendar and particularly for his preparation of two Ashes Test pitches during his six-year tenure in Cardiff.

Chief Executive Hugh Morris said: “On behalf of Glamorgan County Cricket Club I would like to thank Keith for the contribution he has made to the Club and wish him well in his future endeavours.”
