Eastleigh have signed Ebbsfleet winger Robbie Willmott – and he is available for this weekend’s televised game against Southport.

Manager Chris Todd has made the experienced 25 year-old his third signing after the recent additions of defender Wes Atkinson and Matthias Fanimo, who were also brought in on loan.

Willmott, who has had two spells with Cambridge United, won promotion from the Conference with Newport County two years ago and after two seasons in League Two signed for Ebbsfleet in the summer.

After 14 games for the Conference South club, he has joined Eastleigh until January with a view to a permanent move, following the collapse of a loan switch to Crawley Town last week.

Todd said: “Robbie is someone I’ve kept tabs on for a while. He offers us width on the right-hand side, which is something we haven’t had.

“He’ll give us another dimension. He’s been around for a long time but is still only 25. I know all about him, I’ve played against him many times and every time he’s impressed.

“He’s difficult to handle and will give us something a little different.”

An eight-match unbeaten run including seven wins was ended when Grimsby won 1-0 at the Silverlake last week.

Southport will not be underestimated. Saturday's visitors may occupy one of the four relegation berths, but they have won their last two away matches in the Conference, at Woking and Welling.

And Spitfires’ defeat against Grimsby was their fourth in six home games.

“Last Saturday was disappointing but we’ve had a good week,” said Todd. “We’ve done a lot of hard work in training to put our home form right and hopefully that will show.”

The presence of the television cameras and a rare 12.30pm kick off should ensure that next week’s FA Cup tie at Stourbridge is no distraction.

Eastleigh’s fans will not need reminding that it was at the same stage of last season’s FA Cup that they lost 2-1 at Southport.

But that and their 4-0 win on Merseyside on the opening day of the season will have little bearing on tomorrow.

Last week, Southport appointed Dino Maamria as their seventh manager in two and a half years after Paul Carden left by mutual consent earlier this month.

“The TV cameras might be there, but it’s just another game,” said Todd. “And I won’t have to keep their minds off the cup match.

“This gives the players a chance to showcase their talents to a wider audience.”

Eastleigh are still without Jamie Turley but Paul Reid is available again.
