SAM Wilson is level pegging with Sholing’s Dan Mason in the battle for the Sydenhams Premier Division’s golden boot.

Salisbury’s former Eastleigh marksman is now tied with Mason on 37 goals after scoring twice in the Whites’ 5-1 victory over Hamworthy United on Saturday.

His two measured finishes arrived midway through the second half, by which time Ashley Jarvis had restored Whites' lead after the Hammers’ Morgan Turner had cancelled out Robbie Matthews' first-half opener.

Tom Whelan capped a much-improved second-half showing from the champions with a stoppage-time strike as victory took Salisbury up to 99 points with three games to play.

It had been a hectic four weeks for Steve Claridge's charges, who were playing their tenth game - and it showed in their sluggish start.

"It was a good second-half performance, we'll forget about the first half," said Whites boss Claridge.

"I understand that sometimes it's a bit difficult, but it was a lack of application first half which was disappointing.

"I know it's going to be a little low key and not the normal hustle and bustle of a league game which means something. We needed to apply ourselves a bit better in the second half - and we did.”

Salisbury will bid for a league/cup double on Wednesday when they travel to Hardenhuish Park, home of Chippenham Town, for the Wiltshire Senior Cup final against Melksham Town of the Western Premier Division (7.45).
