SALISBURY’S hopes of completing a league/cup double were dashed by Melksham Town last night.

Having roared to the Sydenhams Wessex Premier title, Steve Claridge’s Whites were aiming for glory in the Wiltshire Senior Cup.

But, despite dominating possession, they paid the price for missed chances in a 2-0 defeat at Chippenham’s Hardenhuish Park.

Two goals in the last 20 minutes from Joe Stradling and Gary Higdon carried Toolstation Western Premier outfit Melksham to victory in front of a 736 crowd.

Salisbury will look to bounce back at AFC Portchester in the league on Saturday. They head to Fareham Town on Tuesday before wrapping up the campaign at home to Newport IoW on Saturday, May 7.

For Newport, it will be the second trip to the Raymond McEnhill Stadium inside six days. On Monday (May 2, 3pm) the Islanders take on Team Solent in the Sydenhams League Cup final at Old Sarum.
