FANS’ favourite Ash Tattersall had the last word as Fareham Town ended a long and difficult season with a 6-0 demolition of Verwood Town.

Despite all the problems the wet winter had inflicted on their Cams Alders pitch, Steve Stone’s Creeksiders managed a creditable 12th-placed finish in the Sydenhams Premier Division.

Liam Kimber got the end-of-season party started, coolly rounding the ’keeper before slotting home the 11th-minute opener.

Two goals from Simon Woods made it 3-0 at half-time and it would have been four had Jake Naylor not been denied by the crossbar.

Benny Read’s 50th-minute fourth was hit with such venom that the net came off the frame of the goal!

Sub George Davis nodded in number five and the final say went to newly-crowned supporters’ player-of-the-season Tattersall who blasted in number six with 84 minutes played.

The result was sweet revenge for the 4-0 defeat Fareham had suffered at Verwood’s Potterne Park in February.

In contrast, AFC Portchester ended their season on the low note of a 3-2 defeat by Horndean.

Afterwards, angry boss Graham Rix accused his team of letting the club down, admitting: “Not one of our players covered themselves in glory.”

Sam Smart, Lee Tigwell and Jack Maloney put the Deans three goals in the clear before Portchester belatedly hit back through Jason Parish and Tom Cain.
