SHANE Traynor has quit as manager of Sydenhams Premier outfit Hamworthy United for the second time in seven months.

Traynor temporarily stood down in October for personal reasons, but always said he would return and did so in December.

But he has now notified the Dorset club that he is unable to continue due to increased work commitments.

Hammers beat Folland Sports on the final day of the campaign, but their 16th-placed finish was their joint lowest as a Wessex top flight club.

Traynor, though, had still been expected to lead them into an exciting new era, with a synthetic playing surface set to be installed this summer.

“It was unexpected and certainly not part of the plan,” said chairman Steve Harvey of the manager’s surprise departure.

Harvey, who hopes to talk Traynor out of his decision, added: “With the pitch going down, we wanted Shane to help us develop the club and carry on bringing through our young players.

“It causes us no end of problems but, if he cannot continue, we will have to respect his decision and our search for a replacement will begin.”
