SHOLING hotshot Lee Wort has been given another chance to shine in the National League South – this time with newly-promoted Poole Town.

The free-scoring St Mary’s-based striker scored two goals in seven Southern Premier Division appearances for the eventual champions last season on loan from Gosport Borough.

Wort joined Gosport two years ago on the back of a typically free-scoring season with Sholing in which he spearheaded the Boatmen to an FA Vase/Sydenhams Premier double in 2013/14.

But with Justin Bennett and ex-Saint Matt Paterson banging in goals galore for Borough, he had little chance to impress in his first season at Privett Park.

Last season he saw a bit more of the action, but mainly from the bench, and he returned to his spiritual home Sholing in late March having become a free agent when Gosport ran into temporary financial problems.

Sholing boss Dave Diaper always knew Wort was destined to move on again.

He said: “It was always going to be the case, but it was important from my point of view that he moved to the right club and these are exciting days at Poole.

“Worty coming back to us was about him getting his fitness up rather than going shopping at weekends!

“He’s tested the waters at Poole before and Tom (Killick) said he was even better than he thought he was.

“That’s the thing about Worty. He’s got skills as well as scoring attributes and can turn a tight game in the blink of an eye.

“At Gosport he watched more games than he played which stalled his career, but hopefully he can put that behind him now. We wish him well.”

New in at Sholing is former AFC Totton forward Zac Mouland, who scored ten goals for Lymington Town last term.

The Boatmen will also welcome back manager’s son Marc Diaper, who spent last season with AFC Totton. The experienced left-back will be part of the management and coaching team at Sholing's newly-named Universal Stadium.
