SOUTHAMPTON football has lost one of its great characters.
Bob Crompton, president of the Southampton Divisional FA for nearly 30 years, passed away in hospital yesterday afternoon.
Bob had been in Southampton General Hospital for just over week and took a turn for the worse in the morning. His family were at his bedside when he died.
Having taken on the SDFA’s deputy chairman’s role in 1987, Bob became president in 1988 and chairman in 2002.
He later handed over the chairman’s post but remained president to the present day.
